Justin was born in 1956 in London. After a degree in law and history he worked in the oil industry for eleven years, five in Paris and six in London where he was part of the senior management team of a large British exploration and production company, responsible for its financing operations.
He and Caroline were married in 1979 and lived in Paris for three years, during which time their first child, Johanna, was born. She died in 1983 in a car accident.
He trained for ordained ministry at Cranmer Hall in Durham, where he took a degree in Theology, being ordained deacon in 1992. His curacy was in Nuneaton, at All Saints Chilvers Coton, in Coventry Diocese. In 1995 he became Rector of St James, Southam, a small market town in the same Diocese, and in 1996 also of St Michael and All Angels, Ufton, the next door parish. In 2002 he was made a Canon Residentiary (subsequently also the Sub Dean) of Coventry Cathedral and, with Canon Andrew White and Canon Dr Stephen Davis, ran the reconciliation ministry based there working extensively in areas of civil war or other violent disturbance. In 2006 he also took responsibility for Holy Trinity Coventry, the main city centre church, as Priest-in-charge. In 2007 he became Dean of Liverpool, while continuing to do mediation and reconciliation work overseas.
Justin also writes and lectures on issues of ethics, especially to do with business and finance, working closely with Roman Catholic groups in Europe. He and Caroline have five children, aged 16 - 27, one married.
