Sacriston Says Our Christmas Tree is 'Summit' Special

11/12/2009

OUR TREE IS SUMMIT SPECIAL
Sacriston Sings to Copenhagen Summit

At 3.45pm on Friday 11th December the people of Sacriston, in County Durham, gathered around their little tree and sang a song specially composed for the occasion by their vicar, Canon Caroline Dick.   And a film crew from Tyne Tees was there to record the event.

Then at 7pm many of them came together again in the Community Centre to sing for a special video which it was planned would be posted on YouTube. And this is in response to all the negative publicity the village has received as a direct consequence of their village Christmas tree.

Caroline believes this tree, labelled as ‘the worst tree in Britain’ has a Christmas message for the world.  And so they sang this song (sung to the tune: ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman’)
to proclaim  that message:

OUR CHRISTMAS TREE IN SACRISTON
OF IT WE’RE VERY PROUD
WE WANT TO SING ITS PRAISES
WE WANT TO SHOUT OUT LOUD
THAT SMALL IS SWEET
AND GREEN IS BEST
THE PLANET WE CAN SAVE
COPENHAGEN - THIS SONG WE SING TO YOU,
SING TO YOU,
FOR YOUR SUMMIT THERE CAN MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE!

The event was organised by St Peter and St John’s Church Sacriston and supported by local councillors.
