Counselling Service

Counselling involves working with a professionally trained counsellor over a number of sessions, in complete privacy.

Sessions last for about an hour. The number and frequency of sessions vary greatly and can be discussed with the counsellor.

The Counselling Service is normally completely confidential. In exceptional circumstances, this might need to be reviewed. For example if a child is at risk, or there is a risk of serious harm to someone, the counsellor would discuss with you the need to disclose any relevant information.

Appointments

The Counselling Service is open to anyone in the churches, ordained and lay members.

In the spirit of the Christian faith, all who seek help from our Counselling Service are respected, regardless of age, doubts about faith, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

We ask you to contribute to the cost of counselling as generously as you are able. We never turn anyone away because of financial constraints. However, all donations, small or large, help to keep the service running. Private counselling now costs about £30 - £40 per session – we suggest a minimum donation of £10 per session. A charitable fund can contribute to the cost of counselling for Anglican diocesan clergy and their families.

To speak to someone yourself or to make a referral, contact Alison Moore. She will arrange an initial appointment to discuss whether counselling is the right step for you. This conversation can be by phone or face to face.
